Strong food laws and policies are essential to building a healthy society.

FULL is a discovery tool of food laws and decisions from Barbados, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Jamaica, and South Africa.

Two young boys sitting surrounded by baskets filled with various fresh fruits and vegetables. Aisles in a supermarket filled with rows of colorful boxes, bags, and other food products including vegetables, pasta, and other groceries. A person preparing a sandwich, with bread on the cutting board, chopped vegetables nearby, and pans filled with sandwich ingredients.

FULL offers advocates, scholars, lawyers, journalists, and policymakers the ability to explore laws and decisions related to food law and policy, particularly those aimed at reducing diet-related non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in some selected countries. By providing user-friendly access to the legal sources, FULL allows users to learn about the legal framework applicable in a country, and compare legal provisions.

Who We Are

FULL was developed by the Global Health Advocacy Incubator and the Global Center for Legal Innovation on Food Environments, an initiative of the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law, with the generous support of Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Food Policy Program.

In collaboration with global and local partners, the Global Center for Legal Innovation on Food Environments builds connections between academic legal scholarship and applied initiatives, amplifying the impact of both in the process. We generate and disseminate information on food law and policy, build capacity in the field, and provide technical assistance to international organizations, governments, and civil society primarily in six priority countries.

Drawing on decades of experience working with civil society organizations across public health issues and political systems, the Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI) provides strategic support to advocates working to enact and implement laws that save lives. Through its Food and Nutrition work, GHAI supports the advancement of healthy food policies across all components of effective policy advocacy, including political mapping, legal analysis and strategic planning to media advocacy, coalition building, countering opposition and grassroots mobilization. Our technical legal assistance covers all stages of advocacy campaigns, from providing strategic guidance on policy development and drafting laws and regulations, to advising litigation strategies and supporting legal capacity strengthening efforts
